all these damn choices just make us hide away

"The anguish of choice" – it's a hell of a thing to ponder. We celebrate choice, but what if too much of it actually fragments us? When every decision, big or small, becomes this intensely personal, overwhelming burden, we start pulling back. We retreat from the messy, vibrant world of shared discussion and action into our own private silos of endless options. This isn't freedom; it's a slow erosion of the very fabric that holds us together. If we're all just paralyzed in our own corners, agonizing over individual preferences, how can we possibly build a common world, speak truth to power, or act in concert? It leaves us exposed, isolated, and tragically vulnerable to any loud voice promising to take away the burden of thinking for ourselves. This is exactly how the public sphere shrinks, leaving only lonely individuals.
